Engaging

BSCI engages with a wide range of local, national and international stakeholders such as governments, business associations, buyers, suppliers, trade unions and NGOs, based on the fact that labour issues often stem from systemic political, economic or cultural challenges in sourcing countries. To maximise impact, BSCI uses dialogue, partnerships and joint capacity building efforts.

Other activities include:

  • In sourcing countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Turkey and others, BSCI initiates and supports regular Round Table meetings on labour conditions. Round Tables provide a forum for discussion between local stakeholders on how they can work together to improve working conditions and ensure local ownership of the issue
  • At international level, BSCI initiates discussions and joins forces with various stakeholders, such as initiatives aiming to improve social compliance. This approach allows us and our partners to scale up existing initiatives, create synergies, avoid overlap and deepen impact.
  • In various European countries, National Contact Groups (NCGs) offer a platform for BSCI participants to come together and learn from each other’s experiences. NCGs reach out to stakeholders in their own countries to exchange views and share expertise on responsible supply chain management
  • BSCI’s Stakeholder Council includes representatives from trade unions, NGOs, policy makers and business associations to advise BSCI’s governance on key challenges and trends, ensuring the relevance of BSCI’s contribution to better working conditions
