FTA Launches Project with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand

On 21 September, FTA convened a multi-stakeholder forum in Bangkok to enhance social performance standards in Thai supply chains, bringing together over 100 representatives from Thai business and producer community, government agencies, and development organisations.

This event marks the beginning of a landmark collaboration between FTA and the Thai Ministry of Commerce aimed at promoting responsible business behavior of Thai enterprises in line with expectations of exporting markets. 

In his opening remarks, Mr Duangarthit Nidhi-u-tai, Minister and Head of Commercial Affairs Office of the Royal Thai Embassy in Belgium highlighted the importance of Thai companies to implement ethical business standards. He committed the support of the Ministry of Commerce through this project to enable companies to strengthen social and environmental standards and attract greater business opportunities from European companies.

FTA Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement, Anisha Rajapakse expressed confidence that the project between government and business will inspire others to seek for common solutions and replicate similar initiatives across the region. She also added that the project demonstrated strong adherence to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by promoting responsible recruitment practices in the Thai food sector.

In parallel, FTA and the Thai Ministry of Commerce also introduced the project at the Consumer Goods Forum event on Responsible Operations and Sourcing.
