Key Textile Manufacturers Associations Drive Responsible Supply Chain Governance

30-01-2017

On 7 November, a Declaration on Regional Collaborative Governance of Responsible Supply Chain in the Asian Textile and Garment Industry was jointly signed off in Shanghai by seven leading textile manufacturer associations* from five top sourcing countries. Contrary to global sustainability initiatives mainly driven by buyers and retailers, this time the initiative is being led by key players on the producer side from multiple Asian countries, marking a key milestone in bringing corporate responsibility governance in textile industry to a new level. The participating parties plan to identify specific projects and actions that commit to constructive dialogue and consultation.

FTA is pleased to see this innovative partnership achieved and looks forward to explore potential synergies between its sustainability initiatives and this concerted alliance through its local offices in sourcing countries such as China and Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the seven associations’ current focus would be identifying the challenges of fulfilling CSR expectations that textile manufacturers face in these sourcing countries. FTA is committed to finding long-term solutions for companies and offers local support via our representative offices in China, Bangladesh and potentially India later on.

*The seven signatory parties are Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC), China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA), All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA), Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMA).
